St. Louis Art Museum

The Saint Louis Art Museum and Dayspring Arts and Education are offering a free hands-on workshop introducing participants ages 15-18 to the art of animation, one frame at a time!

The workshop, taught by artist Ng'endo Mukii is inspired by the exhibition, Narrative Wisdom and African Arts which explores how historical and contemporary African arts make visible narratives rooted in collective and individual memory and knowledge.

  • We will visit the exhibition to research inspirations for characters and themes prior to creating a collaborative short experimental film.

  • Participants will paint, draw, and collage, creating images that will be scanned to make the collaborative film. They’ll produce original music, rap and singing to accompany the images created, bringing the final piece together.

  • The artists’ reception will include a screening of the film as well as the exhibiting of individual drawings that make up the animated film.

The Saint Louis Art Museum is always free and open Tuesday – Sunday.
