JAZZ, TAP, & CONTEMPORARY MODERN
JAZZ CLASSES
Ages 7-18
Tap, Jazz, Modern, & Hip Hop
Beginning Tap & Jazz
Ages 7-9 - This class is a part of our Young Dancer Program
In this class, students learn basic Tap and Jazz technique. The tap portion of this class will focus using different parts of the tap shoe to make specific sounds, while learning basic tap steps and vocabulary. In the jazz portion of class, students will learn correct alignment, posture, and vocabulary while having fun with jazz steps and combos. Students may take this class for multiple years to prepare for Tap 1 and Jazz 1.
***This upbeat class pairs wonderfully with Beginning Ballet, Beginning Contemporary Modern, or a Musical Theatre class, but can also be taken as a stand-alone class.

Jazz 1-3
In Jazz 1, students will build on basic jazz techniques learned in Beginning Tap and Jazz. The primary focus will be on Broadway and Fosse jazz styles, with some minor emphasis on Latin and Lyrical jazz. Jazz 2 students will learn advanced styles of Traditional, Fosse, Broadway, Contemporary, and Lyrical jazz techniques. The similarities and differences of these styles will be explored through the techniques themselves as well as through the music that accompanies them.

Musical Theatre Jazz
Ages 11-14
*New this year* Musical Theatre Jazz is designed to pair with Musical Theatre 2. In this class, students will learn skills and techniques needed for musical theatre choreography.

Tap 1-3
As students progress through our tap curriculum, they start by building on basic tap vocabulary learned in Beginning Tap & Jazz. Tap 1 emphases clarity and rhythmic consistency while learning to link steps together into more complex rhythms. Tap 2 focuses on rhythm, timing, dynamics, and steady increase of tempo and introduces students to differences between Rhythm and Broadway styles of tap. Tap 3 students will continue to expand and hone their technical skills through advanced steps, patterns, and improvisation.

CONTEMPORARY MODERN CLASSES
Ages 7-18
Beginning Contemporary Modern Dance
Ages 7-9 - This class is a part of our Young Dancer Program
An introduction to common styles and basic principles of contemporary and modern dance. Students will build awareness of correct physical alignment, gain strength, and increase coordination through movement. Activities will encourage creativity and self-expression.​

***This class is a perfect companion to Beginning Tap and Jazz, a Ballet class, or a Musical Theatre class! Or it can be taken alone by students ages 7-9, who have little or no dance experience.

Contemporary Modern 1-3
There are many different modern dance techniques that students will learn in these classes, including Graham, Horton, and Contract-Release. Contemporary dance is a fusion of styles of modern dance and other movement techniques, often with a heavy emphasis on Release Technique while maintaining a foundation in Modern dance. As students progress through our Modern Contemporary Curriculum, they will increase awareness of correct physical alignment, gain strength, and improve coordination while learning to use purposeful weight placement to initiate different movements. Creativity, improvisation, and self expression through movement will be emphasized throughout each level.
***Students registered for Contemporary Modern 3 are required to take a ballet class***
